How We Work Together

I work with individuals, couples, and teens from all walks of life across Ontario. I welcome first responders, veterans and military families, clients navigating grief, bereavement, or end-of-life concerns, as well as neurodivergent clients. Together we examine what sits beneath the surface and translate that insight into practical changes that can hold in your day-to-day life.

Individuals

Therapy is a disciplined place to pause, look closely, and choose differently. We start by noticing how difficult moments actually unfold, what happens in your body, what you tell yourself, the moves you make to cope, and the after-effects. Mapping that sequence isn’t about blame; it’s about regaining room to maneuver. From there, we pair insight with changes you can feel between sessions: steadier daily rhythms, boundaries that protect your time and energy, and language that makes hard conversations safer.

We’ll shape the work to your pace and preferences: short, focused exercises or slower, reflective dialogue; concrete tools for sleep and focus or time spent clarifying values and direction. If attention, sensory needs, or executive-function challenges are part of the picture, we’ll design systems that fit your brain rather than forcing you to fit a system. The aim is a life that feels more coherent from the inside out, less driven by old patterns, more guided by what matters now.

Couples

Most couples aren’t broken; they’re stuck in a loop: predictable moves that make sense in the moment but still leave both people unseen. In our work, we slow that loop enough to understand it together: the cues that trigger it, the meanings each of you attaches to those cues, and the protections you’ve built that now get misread. With a shared map, we practice new moves, how to signal “I’m reaching” instead of “I’m attacking,” how to listen without bracing, and how to repair quickly when you slip. We’ll tackle the conversations that tend to overheat, about trust, intimacy, money, parenting, grief, or the pressures of high-stress work (including first responder and military life, shift schedules, and cumulative load).

The goal isn’t perfect harmony; it’s dependable connection and teamwork you can feel day to day: clearer communication, fairer workloads, rituals that anchor you, and a way to disagree that doesn’t cost the relationship. Sessions are practical, structured, and paced to both partners.

First Responder Counselling

Operational stress accumulates. Even when nothing “big” happened this week, the body keeps the ledger: hyper-vigilance, sleep disruption, irritability, withdrawal, strain at home. In therapy we make space for what the job rarely allows: quiet, safety, and context. We work on the immediate load (sleep, regulation, decompression rituals) and the deeper impacts (moral injury, grief for what you’ve seen, identity outside the uniform). Culturally aware of police, fire, EMS/paramedic, corrections, and dispatch realities.

Veterans & Military-Connected Therapy

Service shapes how you see the world: structure, loyalty, purpose, and how you carry pain. We address transition, family strain, survivor’s guilt, sleep issues, and meaning after service. Therapy is practical and respectful of your lived experience: we steady the body, clarify the story, and rebuild what you want to stand for now. Direct billing with Medavie Blue Cross (VAC) is available with your authorization.

Neurodiversity

A thoughtful, strengths-oriented approach for teens and adults with ADHD or on the autism spectrum. Sessions adapt to sensory and communication preferences We support executive function (time, tasks, routines), create systems that fit your brain, and reduce shame by working with how you naturally operate, in relationships, at school, and at work.

Teens

Adolescence can be a pressure cooker, grades, friendships, identity, screens, family change. Therapy offers a steady, judgment-free place to talk and learn tools for focus, emotion regulation, and communication. I tailor sessions to attention span and communication style, with concrete strategies for executive function. Parents are collaborators; we set clear boundaries so teens feel safe to speak honestly while caregivers stay appropriately informed.

Faith-Based Counselling

Faith can be a source of strength, identity, and meaning in moments of stability as well as difficulty. If your religious or spiritual life is important to you, we can work directly with it: the practices that steady you, the questions that trouble you, and the beliefs that shape how you make sense of suffering, hope, and responsibility. I work with clients from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions, as well as those who identify as spiritual or are exploring meaning. Therapy is never prescriptive; you set the direction. We integrate faith where it supports your goals, whether through ritual, values, scripture, or the larger narratives you live by.

Grief & Bereavement

Grief is not a problem to solve. It’s a human response to love and rupture. Whether the loss was expected or sudden, recent or long ago, we make room for sorrow and numbness, anger and tenderness, often on the same day. We explore complicated grief, traumatic loss, and disenfranchised grief, and work gently with the questions that follow: Who am I now? What remains? What needs honoring?

End-of-Life & Anticipatory Grief

Serious illness introduces new rhythms: scans and appointments, waiting and wondering, renegotiating hope. Therapy offers a steady place to talk about fear, faith, legacy, and love, and to plan the practical without losing the human. For caregivers, we address exhaustion, devotion, hard conversations, and the grief that begins long before any funeral.
